COVID exposure closes doors at Enderby City Hall

The City of Enderby has closed its doors because of a COVID-19 exposure at city hall.

A message on the city’s website says Enderby City Hall will provide remote service only, effective immediately, through August 31.

Members of city council and four members of staff are currently in self-isolation, according to Mayor Greg McCune.

McCune said that leaves one member of staff to man the front desk but operations cannot proceed with one person according to union rules.

A note on the City of Enderby’s website reveals “a person who attended council chambers in city hall on the evening of Aug. 17 later tested positive for COVID-19 symptoms.”

“The health authority has determined that there is a risk of exposure for others who were in the room at the same time.”

Members of council and staff members who attended the meeting are expected to remain in self isolation until Aug. 31.

The city is still trying to provide service despite the inconvenience, the message said.

“As city hall has a relatively small staff, most of whom are self-isolating, public access to city hall cannot be provided during this time. However, several remote service options are available to help you.”

Service will be provided remotely through the following ways:

  • Telephone: 250-838-7230. All telephone calls will go to the answering service and then routed to the correct staff member.
  • Email: info@cityofenderby.com
  • Correspondence can be dropped through the mail slot by the front doors of city hall.
  • For essential and time-sensitive items that need to be picked up from city hall, appointments can be scheduled by calling 250-838-7230 during normal business hours. One of the staff who are not self-isolating will call you back. Appointments must be scheduled in advance, are only for essential and time-sensitive items, and are subject to staff availability.

Residents have also been assured all emergency services and most routine services will continue to be delivered, although some routine services may be delayed.

In-person meetings will not occur until the self-isolating staff are cleared by the health authority to return.

Staff who are self-isolating will be working from home.

The building is expected to reopen to the public on Sept. 1, 2020.
