Border jumper’s ‘floating getaway’ plan fails
Police in B.C. say a Washington state man floated in the Kettle River near Grand Forks for over two hours in an effort to try and elude police.
Police were able to track the man by walking along both sides of the river bank.
“At a point where the river narrowed, a RCMP officer, along with some Good Samaritans were able to wade into the river and escort him back to shore. The man taken into police custody without further incident,” said Sgt. Darryl Peppler, detachment commander of the Grand Forks – Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment.
The man was being sought for allegedly entering Canada illegally at a closed border crossing in that area.
