Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP have gone to the unusual step of naming a man who was arrested on the weekend after allegedly taking photos in a public park.

Police say Richard Slobodian, 58, was arrested after he allegedly breached his probation while frequenting a local Coldstream park on Saturday, June 6.

An RCMP press release stated an off-duty RCMP officer reported seeing a suspicious vehicle, parked in the area of Creekside Park in Coldstream.

“The officer, who was able to identify the driver, knew the male to be in breach of a court ordered condition not to be within 100 meters of any park where a person under the age of 16 could be present,” Const. Kelly Brett of the Vernon RCMP said. “The suspect male was allegedly taking photos of people at the skate park, but quickly changed locations to another park nearby.

“Given this person was known to police, the off-duty officer continued to follow the vehicle to ensure the safety of the public until marked police units arrived.”

She said Slobodian was arrested and is facing charges of failing to comply with a probation order.
