City of Armstrong Response to COVID-19 Media Release April 3, 2020

The City of Armstrong remains committed to providing the best service possible to all our citizens
through these challenging times.

The city remains open for business in a remote capacity, however in order to mitigate community
spread of the COVID-19 virus, city facilities are closed to public access. Many of our staff members are
working remotely while others that are working in the office and in the field are practicing physical
distancing recommendations.

Essential services such as the operation of our water system, sewer system, and road and drainage
services are being maintained. Our firefighters remain ready to answer emergency calls and emergency
preparedness planning is ongoing.

We continue to provide service in every department including development and building permit applications and building inspection appointments. The mail slot at the front door of city hall is available for information, payments and supporting documentation to be dropped off. We encourage you to contact the city by phone or email as we can offer options for processing your requests.

Bylaw and Dog Control services continue to operate and by using email and phone as the main source
of contact and communication we can ensure physical distance practices are followed.

We are very thankful for the patience and understanding extended by members of the public. We are
living in an extraordinary time, and we appreciate that you are willing to work with us as we strive to
navigate this ever-evolving situation.

As an added item of concern, we would like to advise our citizens and businesses of the surging online,
email and phone scams related to COVID-19. Fraudsters are going to great efforts to steal information
or money from unsuspecting users by sending fake emails and text messages.

In the meantime, here are some quick tips:
• Think before you click a link or download an attachment. If you’re unsure, don’t click or download.
• Don’t respond to any requests for sensitive information, even if it’s supposedly to update
payment information with an account.
• Use well-known websites, such as the BC Centre for Diseases Control or BC Government, to stay
up-to-date on coronavirus information.
• Review email addresses and verify if it’s a legitimate domain from a verified organization.
• Remember that legitimate organizations won’t ask you to update account information or send
personal data via email.
