Crews called to grass fire; found to be under control

The BX-Swan Lake Fire Department responded to a complaint about a grass fire in the 7100 block of Old Kamloops Road Thursday afternoon.

The fire turned out to be some large burning piles which the department said was under control and being supervised.

“Someone drove by and saw a hillside that was burning but didn’t look further up where people were standing by and watching it,” said fire chief Bill Wacey.

Wacey told Vernon Matters it was a controlled burn and the burner did everything correctly, including the proper venting conditions.
