‘Enough is enough:’ Trudeau urges large gatherings to stop

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says “enough is enough” when it comes to Canadians not adhering to social distancing rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Trudeau said at his Monday news conference, everyone has seen the online pictures of people who think they are invincible, and continue to meet in large groups at beaches, in parks and at parties.

“Go home and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing,” said Trudeau who added there will be more education on the risks and possible enforcement of the rules.

“Nothing is off the table,” he warned.

Trudeau said he will be talking with first ministers later today about closing the borders and ways that social distancing rules can be enforced.

The government launches a federal ad campaign on Covid-19 today, focusing on the health care recommendations.

“Listening is your duty, and staying home is your way to serve,” stated Trudeau.

The PM said the decision by Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic committees not to send athletes to the Tokyo Olympics this summer was “heartbreaking for many people,” but was “absolutely the right call.”

Trudeau also made more funding announcements with $192 million for development and production of Covid-19 vaccines in Canada and opening-up $5 billion in credit for farmers.

The prime minister said he has another week to go in his self isolation period at his family home in Ottawa due to his wife being diagnosed with the virus.
