UPDATE: Suspect at large after bank robbery

UPDATE March 19

RCMP are looking for a suspect after a Vernon bank was robbed.

It happened at the Scotiabank in the 3200 block of 30th Ave. just after 12 p.m. Wednesday.

“A lone male entered the bank and produced a note demanding money,” said media relations officer Const. Kelly Brett. “The suspect fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Brett said a multi-unit response, including the assistance of the RCMP dog unit and the general investigative section could be seen by witnesses as officers searched the area for the suspect.

“Although the officers were unable to locate the suspect, a description of him was provided by witnesses, which will aid in our investigation.We are glad to report that no one was injured as a result of this incident,” Brett stated.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, wearing a blue ball cap and grey hooded sweatshirt.

Criminal activity continues to take place despite the COVID-19 outbreak.

Police are on the scene of the Scotiabank on 30th Avenue in downtown Vernon after an emergency.

A sign on the door says: “We advise this branch has just been involved in a robbery/emergency situation. We will be closed until completion of the police investigation.”
