Latest update from Prime Minister Trudeau; no timeline on social distancing rules

Mar 19, 2020 | 8:34 AM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it will take “weeks to months” for social-distancing measures to be lifted in the fight against COVID-19.

He said the government is following the advice of health experts and will not lift restrictions on public activities and movements until it is safe to do so.

“There is no doubt these are uncertain times. But no matter what happens next, we can count on each other, so keep supporting your neighbours by picking up some groceries for them if you’re already at the store,” said Trudeau outside his home in Ottawa.

“You can know that your government is right there with you. We’re working to slow the spread of this virus and taking steps to support you through tough times,” added the PM.

Trudeau said the closure of Canada-US border closure to non essential travel will likely take effect this Friday or Saturday.
