RCMP add precautionary measures to deal with COVID-19

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are maintaining their front counter service during the COVID crisis.

Staff is able to assist with non-emergency issues, and a limited number of people are being permitted into the detachment waiting room at a time.

The detachments in Armstrong/Spallumcheen, Enderby, Falkland and Lumby will remain open but will operate with a reduced administrative staff.

Police are still providing emergency services, but are asking the public to clarify if it’s a criminal or public safety matter when they call, and to let them know if there are any COVID-19 connections.

“We are asking those that require police assistance to notify our call-takers of any flu-like symptoms, travel or contact with those diagnosed with COVID-19, in order for our frontline police officers to take necessary precautions prior to attendance,” Const. Kelly Brett, media relations officer said.

As of March 17, 2020, all Vernon and North Okanagan detachments have suspended civilian fingerprinting services.

“Residents who need to obtain fingerprints for criminal court purposes are still required to attend to the respective North Okanagan detachment,” Brett added.
