It was a long journey, but a short trip.

A group of high school students from Vernon Secondary School have returned home from a long-planned trip to Europe just days after they left the Okanagan. The return comes after a warning was issued against non-essential travel outside of Canada.

They are now in 14 days of self-isolation.

“There were 32 students from VSS and 11 adults who travelled to Paris Wednesday, March 11,” School District 22 spokesperson Maritza Reilly said. “After the Provincial Health Officer advised against all non-essential travel outside of Canada, the district worked with EF Tours to book flights home.

“Everyone arrived home yesterday, Sunday March 15 and they have been directed to self isolate for 14 days.”

The group included students from Grades 10 to 12.

They were supposed to be on a two-week tour of France, Germany and Austria.
