Armstrong council approves pay hike and new budget

Mar 11, 2020 | 5:05 AM

Armstrong council has approved a pay increase of 2.1 per cent for the mayor and six councillors.

It raises the mayor’s pay by $540 dollars a year, to $26,064.

Councillors pay goes up $300 a year to $14,820.

Mayor Chris Pieper says it’s basically a cost of living increase.

“We have that in our policy. For myself, it’s a $45 a month increase, and for councillors, it’s a $25 a month increase,” Pieper told Vernon Matters.

Meantime, Armstrong council has finalized its 2020 budget, which carries a 4.99 tax hike.

About half of that is for a new infrastructure levy (2.5 per cent), with the rest for operations (2.49 per cent).

It means an extra $47 for the average homeowner.
