UPDATE 1 p.m.

BC Hydro says power has been restored at most of the North Okanagan homes.

The North Okanagan, and other areas, were hit by a wind storm Tuesday night that knocked-out power to several thousand homes.

According to BC Hydro about 15,000 customers were without power around the Okanagan, Shuswap, Thompson and Kootenays, and as of 10 am. today, almost 2,000 are still without service.

About 3,000 addresses in Vernon and Spallumcheen were impacted, along with another 1,900 in the Lumby area.

Hydro said most of the outages were caused by trees falling on power lines and the rest by ‘other’ causes.

Environment Canada said wind speeds got up to around 40 km/h and didn’t ease until around 2 a.m. this morning.
