Team B.C’s Brier comes to an end

Jim Cotter’s B.C. team from Vernon and Kelowna has wrapped up play at the Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston Ontario Wednesday with a 9-3 loss to defending champion Kevin Koe of Team Canada.

B.C. ended with 2 wins and five losses for sixth place in Pool A.

Cotter’s team with Steve Laycock, Andrew Nerpin and Rick Sawatsky beat Yukon’s Thomas Scoffin 6-3 in draw 12 Wednesday morning to end a four game losing skid for the B.C. champions.

Cotter and Sawatsky have won nine B.C. men’s curling titles as teammates, but have never won a national title.

Cotter came in second in 2014 when the Brier was held in his hometown of Kamloops.

Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher goes into the championship round in Kingston as the only undefeated team at 7-0. Wildcard Mike McEwen, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Brad Gushue and Saskatchewan’s Matt Dunstone were 6-1.

Team B.C struggling at Brier (March 3)

Jim Cotter’s team from Vernon and Kelowna suffered a fourth straight loss at the Tim Hortons Brier Tuesday morning in Kingston Ontario.

The B.C. champions fell 6-3 to New Brunswick’s James Gratten to drop to 1 win and 4 losses.

Next up with be the team from the Yukon Wednesday morning.

Going into Draw 11, Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher has the best record at 5-0.
