New energy in downtown Vernon

Mar 2, 2020 | 4:34 PM

The Downtown Vernon Association (DVA) has hired someone who has pretty much done it all in events and marketing, as its new events and promotions coordinator.

Heather Sharpe has many years of experience leading corporate and community strategic initiatives, and twice produced the largest public event in B.C.: the Honda Celebration of Light 2014 and 2015, as well as the largest New Year’s Eve event in Canada: Vancouver 2015.

Now, after having a home in Vernon for the last seven years, she is excited to bring her talent and expertise to the DVA to elevate the engagement at their signature events, while re-energizing promotions and marketing for the local businesses.

“I love to think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions that meet the objectives,” said Sharpe. “There isn’t much I haven’t experienced in the world of events and marketing and I can’t wait to bring all that knowledge to benefit my local community and the DVA members.”

Sharpe taught Events and Promotions Management at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna and is often asked to speak on sponsorship best practices around the world.

The DVA is looking forward to new ideas and energy Sharpe will bring to the business group, and to the 2020 events and promotions program.

“The DVA is very excited to welcome Heather to the association and are confident that her high-calibre marketing and promotions skill-set as well as her engaging and genuine personality are an ideal fit for DVA member businesses and property owners,” said DVA executive director, Susan Lehman.
