Warmer weather signals start of road construction season

Spring is almost here, and that also means the start of the road project season.

The final phase of an upgrade to the western end of 48th Avenue in Vernon will start Monday and continue until the end of June, weather permitting.

Motorists will have to put-up with some delays but crews will maintain at least one lane in each direction between Anderson Way and Highway 97.

“Access to area businesses will remain open to both traffic and pedestrians,” said a city news release.

The project includes a new drainage culvert to address annual flooding, road improvements and a multi-use pathway on the north side of 48th Avenue.

“In 2019, crews started constructing a multi-use pathway and curbing, and constructed a storm outfall and concrete culvert to address regular flooding issues on the road. This final phase of the project will include the construction of storm sewer pipes and manholes, road grading and the completion of the multi-use pathway and culvert,” stated the release.
