Road grit causes latest air quality advisory
Dust levels in Vernon are on the rise again.
The Environment Ministry has issued the latest road dust advisory, with levels over the provincial objective of 50 micrograms per cubic metre.
The high levels — which can be an issue for infants, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions — are expected to continue until there is precipitation or dust suppression.
“Levels tend to be highest around busy roads and industrial operations,” said Trina Orchard, air quality meteorologist. “Persons with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise near busy roads until the advisory is lifted.”
