Pink shirt day at Science Centre

Feb 25, 2020 | 9:55 AM

The Okanagan Science Centre has big plans for Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday February 26.

The Centre is hosting two events on the anti-bullying day: one geared towards children and the other parents.

The Anti-Bullying for Children Workshop, led by Breakthrough Martial Arts owner/instructor Rob Rinas, will teach children how to diffuse confrontation without violence.

“During this one-hour introduction your child will gain valuable strategies to help them confidently handle a bully,” said a news release from the centre.

The workshop runs from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. February 26, and is free for members; included with admission for non-members.

Parents can sometimes struggle with knowing how to help their child with anxiety. The intention of our Helping Your Anxious Child: A Panel Discussion is to let parents know they are not alone, to help de-stigmatize mental health issues and provide helpful tools and resources.

The panel is comprised of members of the community with lived experiences as well as healthcare professionals. This evening discussion will run from 7– 8:15 p.m. at the Science Centre.

Admission is free, and all are welcome.

The centre encourages everyone to wear pink on Feb. 26th to let the world know “bullying stops here.”
