Players challenge coaches for foundation

Feb 24, 2020 | 10:47 AM

The Sky Volleyball Club will be holding its annual Players versus Coaches Challenge on Friday February 28 at Kalamalka Secondary in Coldstream.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Donations will be accepted for The Emily Dahl Foundation.

The foundation encourages everyone to come out and support the fun event.

A news release on the event says one of the goals of Sky Volleyball Club is happiness.

“This quote by a well known spiritual leader sums it up: “If you’re happy, you cannot be a victim of your happiness. But if you’re successful, you can be a victim of you success.”‘

The Emily Dahl Foundation, a proud supporter of Sky Volleyball, says it will continue to work alongside The Sky Nation by bringing the message of true mindfulness and happiness as a key objective for all young athletes, parents and coaches.

Dahl was a club volleyball player and all-around athlete when she took her own life in January 2019.

Her father, Sherman Dahl, says this story carries an important message the world needs to hear.

“We don’t need to consume a lot to be happy; in fact we can live very simply. This was something that Emily Dahl practised in spite of the mounting pressures of society to think differently. With mindfulness, any moment can become a happy moment. Our society has obscured this for our young and it is time to develop a more mindful approach to living.

Each of us needs to come back to reconnect with ourselves, with our loved ones and with the Earth. Emily Dahl taught everyone that she came in contact with including her dear old dad that it’s not money, power or consuming than can make us happy, but having love and understanding in our heart. This is the vision of The Emily Dahl Foundation,” said Sherman Dahl.
