34-year-old Vernon murder case goes to court

Feb 10, 2020 | 5:10 AM

A more than three-decades-old Vernon murder case is set to begin court proceedings today in Kelowna.

Fifty-nine-year-old Paramjit Singh Bogarh is charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, after the death of his wife, Saminder Bogarh, on New Year’s Eve in 1986 at the couple’s Vernon home.

RCMP said at the time, a 26-year-old woman suffered several stab wounds and was found in the bathroom of their home.

Bogarh was charged with second degree murder at the time, but the Crown stayed the charge a few days later which police said was due to a lack of evidence.

Bogarh and his brother, Narinder Singh Bogarh, were charged with the murder and conspiracy offences in 2018, with Paramjit extradited from the United States to Canada around the same time.

At last report, B.C. legal officials were trying to have Narinder extradited from India to Canada to face the charges.

Hearings to discuss the admissibility of evidence are scheduled to start today in B.C. Supreme Court in Kelowna with the trial scheduled to begin March 2.
