Chamber provides analysis on provincial budget

Feb 9, 2020 | 7:38 AM

Greater Vernon business leaders will be among the first to get the inside scoop on the 2020 provincial budget.

The budget will be tabled in Victoria Feb. 18, and during a breakfast meeting Feb. 19, the Greater Vernon Chamber will host an analysis of the budget with James Barnett, senior manager of tax with BDO.

“We are extremely excited that James has agreed to provide his insight on the budget and particularly tax implications for business and the impact on important local sectors such as forestry, agriculture and tourism,” said Dione Chambers, Greater Vernon Chamber general manager. “We encourage all business owners, as well as non-profit organizations, to attend the event and become more informed about the provincial government’s financial direction.”

James Barnett began his career with Deloitte in Calgary where he focused on taxation for large corporations. He has since held various industry roles, including managing tax functions for global multinational enterprises, and most recently Kal Tire.

Barnett’s current role with BDO Vernon includes collaborating on tax structuring and planning advice.

The provincial budget analysis takes place Feb. 19 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Eatology and registration can be done online at https://www.vernonchamber.ca/events/details/speaker-seriesprovincial-budget-analysis-4206.

Early bird pricing is in place until Feb. 12.
