Vees dump Vipers 7-1

Jan 31, 2020 | 10:20 PM

The Penticton Vees scored early and often in a 7-1 rout over the Vernon Vipers Saturday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Lukas Sillinger, son of former NHL’er Mike Sillinger, scored two goals for the Interior Division leading Vees before a crowd of 3,217 in Penticton.

“It’s not one area of our game tonight, it’s everybody. It’s obviously disappointing. We needed to get off to a better start,” said Vipers coach Jason Mckee.

McKee admitted his team was tired, but said they have to overcome that.

“Our game was obviously very sloppy,” he told the post game show on Beach Radio.

Matt Kowalski, with his 24th of the season, scored Vernon’s lone goal.

Reilly Herbst was pulled after allowing 2 goals on 5 shots but came back to replace Keegan Karki in the third period.

Some last minute heroics for the Vernon Vipers!

Connor Sleeth scored with 17 seconds left in regulation time to lift the Vipers over the Prince George Spruce Kings 2-1 Friday night at Kal Tire Place.

It was the second straight comeback win for the Snakes after their 4-3 victory over the Wenatchee Wild Wednesday.

Connor Marritt tied the game at 1 with his 13th goal of the season 11 minutes into the third, setting the stage for Sleeth’s near buzzer beater before 2,086 delirious fans.

It was a bit of revenge for the Vipers after being swept by the Kings in last year’s Fred Page Cup BCHL Final

The Vipers head south to take on the first place Penticton Vees Saturday at 6 p.m.

Listen for the game on 107.5 Beach Radio with Graham Turnbull starting at 5:45.
