Jan 25, 2020 | 4:09 AM

They may be in 16th place in the 17-team BCHL, but the West Kelowna Warriors gave the Vernon Vipers all they could handle this weekend.

The Warriors swept their home and home series with the Vipers, winning 4-1 Saturday night before a big crowd of 2,446 at Kal Tire Place.

The Warriors scored short-handed, empty-net goals in the final two minutes to seal their 13th win over the season.

Logan Cash was the only Viper to hit pay dirt, scoring his fourth of the season late in the second period.

Riley Morgan won the goaltending battle over Vernon’s Reilly Herbst, making 30 saves.

The Vipers next host the Wenatchee Wild Wednesday Jan. 29.

Warriors hold off Vipers comeback (jan. 24)

The West Kelowna Warriors built up a 3-0 lead and then hung on to defat the Vernon Vipers 3-2 Friday night at Royal Lepage Place.

Jacob Brockman scored what turned out to be the game winner midway through the second period for the second to last place Warriors before the Vipers mounted their comeback.

Trey Taylor, with his sixth goal of the season, and Connor Sleeth, with his fourth, tallied for Vernon..

The Vipers would be awarded a powerplay late in the third, and with goalie Keegan Karki pulled, they had two good looks, but couldn’t find the back of the net as their comeback fell a goal short before 733 fans.

The two teams play the back end of their home and home series Saturday night at Kal Tire Place at 6 p.m.
