Weather warming up, but roads still require caution

Jan 17, 2020 | 12:27 PM

The snow has stopped falling — at least for a while — and the cold snap appears to be coming to an end, but that has not stopped accidents on local highways.

Vernon Matters has received reports of a rollover crash on Highway 97 south of Vernon Friday, near Oyama.

Graham Turnbull, voice of the Vernon Vipers, called to say traffic was slowed just south of Okanagan College, as a tow truck was removing a pickup truck that went off the highway Thursday.

Turnbull and the Vipers are on the bus to Trail for a game against the Smoke Eaters tonight.

He said the Oyama rollover was slowing traffic just a few minutes down the road.

Icy roads and snow caused a fatal crash on Highway 97 north of Summerland Thursday afternoon.

The driver of a car lost control and was broadsided by a semi. A passenger in the car was killed in the collision.
