Road crews have plan ready once weather warms

Jan 14, 2020 | 3:03 PM

Local roads and highways continue to be icy and slippery for drivers, but it appears there is not much road maintenance crews can do until it warms up.

The highway maintenance contractor for the Okanagan Shuswap, AIM Roads, tells Vernon Matters, at these temperatures, sand is the best material to restore traction.

Greg Ehman, the contract manager for AIM, said crews are actively sanding all routes throughout their shifts.

“Temperatures are expected to warm as early as Friday. AIM has put a plan in place to de-ice all the highways as soon as the temperatures are conducive to the use of de-icing materials,” Ehman said.
