City considers funding for waste study
Local politicians continue to examine the need for a household organics collection program.
Vernon council will decide at their meeting today if they want to work with the Regional District of North Okanagan on a waste characterization study which could lead to a more detailed analysis about the costs and benefits of such a program.
City staff is recommending the city provide $10,000 for the RDNO study funded from the casino reserve fund which has a balance of over $1.1 million.
About nine per cent of Vernon’s current greenhouse gas emissions are from organic waste going into the landfill.
