One of the popular events for Vernon Winter Carnival will not be lifting-off for this year’s 60th annual event next month.

The committee of the British Columbia Ballooning Association has announced it will be cancelling the 2020 Hot Air Balloon Festival and Hot Air Balloon Glow, February 7 – 9th due to lack of finances and volunteers.

“We would like to take this time to thank all those that have supported us for this year festival and those before it,” said a statement from Lori Carey of the B.C. Ballooning Association.

“All cash donations we have attained will roll over to the next festival and all the gift in kind donations will be offered back to those business that have so graciously donated. We have attained over $13,000 gift in kind donations from the local business but unfortunately our cash donations were not met.”

Carey added with the help from the community they plan to have a small fundraising event through the year to attain the needed cash for this festival.

“We ask the public to follow us on our web page and/or facebook page and come out to our fundraisers. To help us determine if this festival is still a community favorite please show us your support by post your past hot air balloon pictures on our Instagram page, using #bcballooning or facebook.”

Anyone wanting to be part of the event in the future, either volunteering or donating, can email the group at bcballooning@gmail.com
