Library use on the increase

Dec 16, 2019 | 5:15 AM

Residents continue to use library services in the Okanagan.

The Okanagan Regional Library says they have over 106-thousand members, with circulation up 1.7 per cent, and visits up 1.3 per cent.

In presentations being made to Vernon and other municipal councils, chief executive officer Don Nettleton says future plans are to continue adding more digital collections and providing more space for community hubs and gatherings.

“Continuing programming expansion to all ages, increased digital literacy training, and developing and implementing an updated strategic plan are also in the works,” said Nettleton.

The Vernon Library continues to be the busiest in the Okanagan Regional Library system which has 31 locations.

Library officials say the branch has the highest circulation rate in the system at 500-thousand physical items.

E-book checkouts through the library continue to soar, up 47 per cent since 2016.
