Falkland is new home of RCMP Traffic Services

Dec 10, 2019 | 3:36 PM

There will be an increased police presence in Falkland — but not because of a crime issue.

The RCMP detachment in the small community west of Vernon is the new headquarters for North Okanagan Traffic Services, which has moved from Vernon.

Seven constables, two corporals, a sergeant and public service worker will work out of the building, some of them responsible for traffic enforcement throughout the North Okanagan and Shuswap.

“The corporal and two constables who work out of this detachment have eagerly been making room for their new housemates,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, media relations officer.

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Supt. Shawna Baher says the move is aimed at increasing road safety on area highways.

“Many of our community members in these areas have raised concerns about speeding and unsafe driving” said Baher. “We welcome this move as it will increase police visibility and overall road safety of this busy traffic corridor.”
