Water line break causes short closure at Aquatic Centre

Dec 3, 2019 | 10:24 AM

The Vernon Aquatic Centre was shut down for about an hour Monday after a chlorine alarm went off.

The City of Vernon says it was caused by a minor water line break in the chlorination room that led to the chlorine detection sensors activating an alarm.

“Although no chlorine gas was released, the detector is very sensitive and was able to detect the chlorine odor from the water on the floor. Aquatic Centre staff followed established safety protocols and evacuated the pool guests to the auditorium until the source of the alarm could be determined,” said Gary Lefebvre, Aquatic Manager.

Staff have since had the line repaired and the pool reopened within an hour of the initial alarm.
