Landscaping agreement finalized between city and Turtle Mountain
After months of back and forth between Turtle Mountain residents and the city, it appears the two have come to an agreement on landscaping—but it was no easy feat.
Vernon city council voted to support Option 4 – an option that wasn’t even before residents during the public consultation phase, but provides what the city believes is a good mix of residents needs.
Some of the highlights include; allowing the removal of rocks, grass turf and shrubbery, along Turtle Mountain Boulevard except the large planting beds at the intersection of Alexis Park Drive and a new drip irrigation system. The site will receive on-going watering and maintenance, and trees will be replaced when they die with more drought tolerant options.
During the public consultation phase, three landscaping options were up for feedback. A survey with 62 responses was distributed online and an open house was held but the city found “no clear preferred option amongst Option 1 and 3,” and a strong dislike for Option 2.
