MLA undecided on running again

Three terms in Victoria may not be enough for the MLA for Vernon Monashee.

Eric Foster of the Liberals says he hasn’t made a decision on running for another term, and hasn’t set any sort of deadline for that with the next election still two years away.

“I’m still enjoying what I’m doing. It will depend on health, if I’m still enjoying it, and if I still feel that I have something to offer. All those things come into the decision. It’s two years out, so a lot of things can happen in two years,” Foster told Vernon Matters.

The ten-year MLA from Lumby, first elected in 2009, says the last couple of years hasn’t been as enjoyable as his first two terms.

“I certainly don’t enjoy opposition as much as I did being in government, but it’s a job to do, and a very important job. You have to keep the government to account.”

The B.C.Liberals have officially opened nominations in 11 key ridings, which the party says is the first step to putting forward candidates for the next election, tentatively set for Oct. 2021, but that could change if the minority NDP government falls.

“If you look at those ridings, you’ll see they are ridings we’ve held in the past, and maybe some where people, on both sides of the house, have indicated they’re not going to run again. You want to make sure you’ve got your nominations done,” Foster said.

The ridings are Abbotsford South, Courtenay-Comox, Maple Ridge-Mission, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, Mid Island-Pacific Rim, New Westminster, North Vancouver-Lonsdale, Oak Bay-Gordon Head, Port Moody-Coquitlam, Vancouver Fairview and Vancouver-Fraserview.
