Trustees debate pay raise
Trustees on the North Okanagan Shuswap School Board have voted to give themselves a pay raise equal to the Consumer Price Index, despite some members thinking that was too much.
The raise, based on the index, works out to 2.7 per cent for the coming year and follows district policy on remuneration.
“In accordance with board policy, trustee remuneration is to be reviewed annually and an adjustment only to the base remuneration becomes effective December 1 of each year. The adjustment will reflect the B.C. Consumer Price Index change from the previous year,” stated a School District 83 newsletter from the Nov. 19 meeting.
Some trustees argued to break with the policy and go with a lesser increase of two per cent.
