Detours making it tough to find business

Nov 21, 2019 | 3:02 PM

A water main break on Okanagan Avenue earlier this week — and subsequent repairs — have had an impact on a Vernon business.

Ian Mathews from Dan’s Garage on 43A Street said they are still open, but it’s been a struggle as some of their customers and suppliers have had trouble getting to their shop due to the detours.

“We’re struggling to inform people that we’re still open, and we’re still here, and there is a way through. It is accessible. We haven’t been able to get parts deliveries from Lordco or NAPA. We’ve talked to the city and figured it out, but we’re struggling,” Mathews told Vernon Matters.

Mathews said drivers can get to them by following the detours on Mission Hill.

“It’s tough, but you can make your way around,” he said.

There is also an auto body shop in the same complex at 2316 43A Street.

The City of Vernon has said it expects the repaving of that area to be done by the end of this week.

The water main break in the 4100 block of Okanagan Ave. was repaired Tuesday night.
