Coldstream seeks new fire chief

Nov 21, 2019 | 10:16 AM

The District of Coldstream is currently without a fire chief.

Former chief Dave Sturgeon, who held the post since 2015, left the position earlier this year to become a full time chief in Big Lakes County, a collection of five hamlets in northern Alberta.

Coldstream’s chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel said they have yet to fill the position.

“We are in the middle of a process to replace the fire chief as we speak,” Seibel told Vernon Matters.

Seibel said the volunteer-lead department is currently under the leadership of Deputy Chief Colin O’Hara and Assistant Chief Fiona Mogenthaler-Code.

The district’s website says the municipality’s fire protection service is provided by two fire halls, one in Lavington and one in West Coldstream, with 25 paid-on-call volunteer firefighters at each hall.
