Peak pride coming to Silver Star

Nov 20, 2019 | 1:55 PM

It’s an event aimed to celebrate inclusivity on the slopes.

Peak Pride will be making its mark at Silver Star Mountain Resort from December 6 to 8.

The mountain will be partnering with Rebellious Unicorns to host the event.

Peak Pride launched in 2017 at Big White Ski resort and has since expanded to Sun Peaks near Kamloops. The event brings together the LGBT2Q+ community, while working with local mountains on creating more inclusive and welcoming communities for people of all gender identities, gender expression, sexual orientation, race and religious beliefs.

“We are honoured to host Peak Pride at SilverStar, and we are excited to make it an annual, on-mountain event,” Chantelle Deacon, media relations manager at Silver Star Mountain Resort, said. “As a community-orientated mountain, we believe in inclusivity, while continuing to add more events that everyone will enjoy.”

The event is open to everyone and will feature a drag show with Freida Whales and Ella Lamoureux at the wipeOUT party on Saturday. Live music will also be playing with music from DJ Shado of Kelowna. Party-goers can also expect a mountain pride party down the Milky Way ski run.

Staff at Silver Star Mountain Resort will be participating in the Canadian LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce’s LGBTQ diversity tourism training workshop prior to Peak Pride taking place.
