Spike belt stops stolen truck
Police were able to apprehend a stolen vehicle suspect in Vernon’s Westside Road area, after a spike belt did what it’s supposed to do.
Mounties put down the tire-flattening device on Six Mile Creek Road around 8 a.m. Monday after being advised of a stolen pickup truck in that area.
“Officers immediately went to the area where the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee from them. A spike belt was successfully deployed. The truck drove on for a while before the driver abandoned it on a side road and fled into the woods,” Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, media relations officer, said.
A 33-year-old man was arrested with police recommending charges of possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of a probation order.
