Garbage/disposal fees rising
Fees will be going up for a number of items at the diversion and disposal facilities run by the Regional District of North Okanagan.
The new fees will take effect Jan. 1, 2020, and among the notable increases will be the minimum charge for refuse, wood waste and scrap metal going from $5 to $6, and the garbage disposal fee rising from $100 to $103 a tonne.
“Diversion and disposal fees cover facility operating costs and fund facility capital and closure reserves. Additionally, fees are designed to encourage waste diversion and discourage waste disposal,” Ashley Gregerson, RDNO communications officer, said.
RDNO says it’s the first fee hike at these facilities since January 2016.
