Annual event

Blessings in a backpack

Nov 12, 2019 | 12:18 PM

Vernon’s Upper Room Mission is looking for community support as it launches its annual “Blessings In a Backpack” campaign.

From now until December 13, the Mission will be collecting backpacks for both adults and children, with suggestions to fill them with the following items:

– Warm gloves, scarf and/or toque

– New socks and underwear

– Heavy sweatshirt or warm jacket

– Toiletry items (travel size is best)

– Small flashlight

The backpacks should be labelled for male or female and can be dropped off at the Upper Room Mission, (3403 27th Avenue Vernon, B.C.) Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The packs will be delivered to less fortunate community members on December 23.

“This campaign means so much as these backpacks are the only gift some of our community members will receive this Christmas,” URM General Manager Naomi Rouck said. “Sometimes it is the little blessings in life that can make the biggest difference.”
