Update: Truck with horse trailer crashes on highway

Update 3:45 p.m.

Southbound traffic has been slowed in Lake Country after a crash near Pelmewash Parkway, and a detour in effect

RCMP say a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer with horses in it jack-knifed on Highway 97.

“We’re not sure of the cause, but we suspect it may be a medical event,” Sgt. Bryce Petersen told Vernon Matters.

The horses are believed to be okay.

Paramedics were attending to the driver.

The highway should open around 4 p.m.

Update:

Reports on social media say a truck hauling a horse trailer went over the barrier and into oncoming traffic.

The report says traffic is being detoured on Pelmewash Parkway in Lake Country.

Vernon Matters has reached out to RCMP for details.

A crash has stalled traffic on Highway 97 south of Vernon.

A caller tells Vernon Matters it’s impacting both southbound lanes just south of Bailey Road, the turnoff to Predator Ridge Resort.

Northbound lanes are not affected.

No other details are available.
