Family doctor recruited to Lumby

Nov 5, 2019 | 11:45 AM

Lumby has been succesful in recruiting a family doctor to the community.

The District Health Services Society says on its Facebook site, Dr. Moa Sugimoto will be coming to the village of 2,000 residents in July 2020 through the International Medical Graduates Program.

“Dr. Sugimoto is a family physician who moved from Japan in 2011 with her husband. She will be joined by her husband and two small children in her move from Vancouver in July 2020,” the posting said.

The program provides doctors who have trained outside of Canada, with two years of additional training in order to comply with Canadian standards and requirements.

“Dr. Sugimoto is extremely well qualified with an impressive resume. She is passionate about family medicine and will be supportive of allied professions, the health programs offered by the Health Society and others throughout the community. We are very confident Dr. Sugimoto will be an excellent provider of family medicine to Lumby and the district.”

The village has dealt with doctor shortages the last few years, and at last report, had a part-time doctor working two to three days a week until December.

“We are very fortunate Moa has chosen Lumby for her two-year return to service location. The society endeavors to ensure she is warmly welcomed by the community,” the posting added.
