A dedicated member of Vernon Search and Rescue has been honoured for his many decades of service.

The British Columbia Search and Rescue Association has presented Pete Wise with a Lifetime Honourary Membership for his significant contributions to search and rescue in the province.

“Pete is one of the founding members of the SAR Advisory Council (what we now know as BCSARA). Pete also helped develop a number of the SAR courses and policies we continue to rely on today,” a posting on the organization’s Facebook page said.

Wise, who is a Coldstream resident, was recognized for his 55 years of service as a public safety lifeline volunteer.

“It’s volunteers like Pete that are the true heart and lifeblood of Search and Rescue in B.C.,” the association said. “Thanks Pete for your continued support and unwavering dedication to your fellow search and rescue volunteers.”

Wise talked about his SAR service in an interview with Vernon Matters in 2018 after he received the B.C. Community Achievement Award from the Lieutenant Governor in Victoria.
