Police investigating shots fired

Nov 4, 2019 | 1:56 PM

Police are not saying much about an incident where shots were fired in a Vernon neighbourhood.

“On Nov. 1, 2019, at approximately 4:30 p.m., multiple frontline police officers from the RCMP descended on the area of the 4100 block of 24th Avenue in response to numerous reports of shots being fired. Vehicles associated to this shooting fled the area prior to police arrival,” RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said.

Police say they have not yet had any reports of injuries as a result of the incident, as they continue to investigate and follow up on leads.

Mounties make no mention of any suspects or arrests being made in a news release issued Monday afternoon.

“The actions of these individuals put local residents and innocent bystanders at great risk in the area,” said Noseworthy. “We treat every investigation involving firearms extremely seriously and are asking anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leaving a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com.

Vernon Matters was first to report details of the shooting, with one resident saying she heard up to seven loud bangs, that sounded like gunshots.

Nearby resident Brad Albrecht told media his truck was hit by one of the bullets.
