Oct 9, 2019 | 11:49 AM

If you want more say in decisions Vernon council makes, here’s your chance.

The city is now accepting applications for council committee positions to begin in 2020.

A total of 21 positions are available, including seats on committees for: advisory planning, affordable housing advisory, transportation advisory, and the tourism commission.

“Established by council, these committees are composed of both members of the public and elected officials. Each committee’s role is to inform and advise council on issues that relate to its respective mandate,” a city news release said.

The application deadline is November 6, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

The Advisory Planning Committee provides city councillors with advice and recommendations on proposed land use and planning changes and related matters.

The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee monitors and provides councillors with milestone achievements of the implementation of the city’s Attainable Housing Strategy and provides council with advice on affordable housing matters.

The Transportation Advisory Committee provides, at council’s request, recommendations on matters related to transportation and infrastructure and the safe and efficient movement of goods and people in accordance with city policies and bylaws. The committee may also be asked to review and provide comments on matters related to the road, transit, pedestrian and cycle networks, emerging accessibility and road safety issues.

The Tourism Commission’s purpose is to develop Vernon as a tourism destination through collaboration between tourism stakeholders, council and administration and assist with increasing Vernon’s market share of travelers to and within British Columbia.
