$500,000

Co-workers become co-winners

Some co-workers at a Vernon pharmacy have some extra spending money after cashing in a B.C. Lottery ticket.

Tina Gauvin and six other colleagues won $500,000 after matching all four Extra numbers in the Sept. 25 Lotto 6/49.

“I am known for playing tricks on my co-workers, so when I told them we won, no one would believe me,” Gauvin, who was appointed team captain by the group, said.

Gauvin was picking her mother up from the airport when she stopped by a self-serve terminal to scan the winning ticket.

“I was in awe. I thought we had won $50, but then I saw so many zeros. I checked it again and asked the retailer if their machine was broken,” Gauvin said.

Gauvin actually checked the ticket three times before she shared the news with her co-workers — just to make sure.

“We waited until everyone was finished work before we went to the Hunter’s Store in Vernon, where I purchased the ticket, and everyone erupted in excitement,” she said.

Gauvin said they’ve been dreaming up ideas on how to sped the money, with some wanting to go on vacation, and some using it for a down payment on a house.

“But we will probably have a get together for the group too,” she added.

The name of the pharmacy where the winners work was not released by B.C. Lotteries.
