Kindness meters provide over $600 for NOYFSS

Oct 3, 2019 | 4:22 PM

The North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society received a financial boost Thursday thanks to the generous contributions made to the downtown kindness meters.

Mayor Victor Cumming was on hand to present the cheque for $642.72 to Dean Franks, Executive Director of the North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society.

NOYFSS serves roughly 1,200 families every year and has been in the community since 1972.

The kindness meters were installed in 2016 as a way for residents to help groups serving the disadvantaged as opposed to individual panhandlers.

Funds are distributed once a year and, according to the mayor, the challenge is still on for city councillors to match the donation.

“We got to beat it by council members to see if they can put into the pot,” the mayor said, adding he already put in his $100 share of the donation.
