Wages at issue

Mediator tries to settle stalemate

A mediator will try to find common ground between the District of Coldstream and its unionized workers.

The B.C. Labour Relations Board has appointed a mediator to the dispute that saw talks break down in August over wages.

“The union will be meeting with the District of Coldstream in mid October,” said Bryce de Dood, Acting CUPE 626 President.

Trevor Seibel, Chief Administrative Officer with the District, confirms the mediator’s appointment, and that talks will be held later this month.

The union members have voted 96 per cent in favour of strike action, calling the District’s latest offer unacceptable.

About 30 CUPE members work at the District including front-line services staff, finance and accounting professionals, RCMP clerks, utility and equipment operators, parks workers, planning technicians, mechanics and other tradespeople.
