Snow at SilverStar

Cooler than normal temperatures brings snow to ski hills

Sep 30, 2019 | 6:00 PM

The unusual cooler than normal temperatures has meant a great start for the snow base at local ski hills.
Chantelle Deacon Communications and Sponsorship Manager at Silver Star Mountain Resort said the ski hill has already seen three to four centimeters of snow in the village and six to seven of centimeters of snow at higher elevations.
Snow has also fallen at Big White in Kelowna and Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton.

Matt Macdonald of Environment Canada said the cooler than normal temperatures are thanks to a cold front that began sweeping through the valley on Thursday.

“In the wake of that cold front, we just have this continuous northerly circulation where air is coming all the way down from the Yukon and Northwest Territories and delivering well below seasonal values,”Macdonald said.

And the chilliness is expected to continue at full force tonight.

“It’s going to be the coldest night that we’ve seen so far this fall. We’re dipping down to the zero mark with patchy frost right through the Okanagan,” he said.
