Capital gains: Cowichan dominates Vipers

The Cowichan Valley Capitals showed why they are one of the top teams in the BCHL, after a 7-2 win over the Vernon Vipers Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

Matthew Crasa led the Caps with two goals as the team coached by former Vipers bench boss Mike Vandekamp improved to 7 and 2, tops in the Island Division.

The Vipers fell to 3 and 3, getting goals from Ben Helgeson and Ryan Shostak before a crowd of 1,799.

Cowichan outshot Vernon 31-27, with the Caps chasing starting Vipers goalie Max Palaga who surrendered five goals over two periods, when he gave way to Kobe Grant.

Next up for the Vipers will be a road game against the league-leading Penticton Vees Friday as part of the annual BCHL Showcase Festival which is being split between Chilliwack and Penticton..

The Vees improved to 8-0 with a 7-3 win over the West Kelowna Warriors Saturday.
