Update

Residents at a condo complex in Lake Country were evacuated due to a fire this morning.

Fire chief Steve Windsor said it started from electrical sources in the ceiling of a hallway at the Lake Country Lofts on Bottom Wood Lake Road.

“It’s a four-story condo building. Numerous people were saying there was smoke in the hallways and in the stairwell. Everybody was evacuated successfully,” Windsor told Vernon Matters.

He says it damaged some drywall, along with smoke and water damage.

“The fire turned out to be electrical in nature and started behind the drywall in the ceiling in a hallway and then broke through. One of the residents tried to put it out, I believe, with a fire extinguisher and realized it was beyond his capability and called us.”

Windsor says there was no automatic sprinkler in that area of the building.

An apartment building was evacuated in Lake Country due to a fire Tuesday morning.

Reports from the scene say it was an electrical fire on the third floor of the Lake Country Lofts on Bottom Wood Lake Road.

Emergency crews are on the scene.
