With the federal election two months away, the local candidates are getting ready for the campaign.

The North Okanagan Shuswap NDP will open its Vernon campaign office at 3130 32nd Street at an event Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

“This will be an opportunity for the public to learn about the party policies going into the federal election as well as a chance to meet the candidate and campaign team 2019. It will also be a time to sign up volunteers and build the team up,” said Erik Olesen, campaign manager for candidate Harwinder Sandhu, in a news release.

Olesen said he and Sandhu have spent the months of June, July and August completing a cross constituency tour of the electoral district.

“We have been to every corner from Edgewood to Salmon Arm to Sicamous,” he said.

The other declared candidates for the North Okanagan Shuswap riding are incumbent Conservative Mel Arnold, Cindy Derkaz of the Liberals, Marc Reinarz of the Green Party and Kyle Delfing of the People’s Party.
